Amazing Grace in Times of Wonder

God's faithfulness is so amazing. Even when things get tougher for us; when we are tired and sleep deprived, when sickness come and life throws us a curve ball - God is continuing to provide for our needs physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Update:
We took Cade in to the Doctor last week because he seemed to be having a problem crying. It wasn’t very loud (which I though was great) but seemed a little weird. Our doctor agreed and referred us to specialist in Minneapolis. Our appointment was for Monday (November 14th).

Meanwhile, Saturday night, Shara began having stomach pains just under her rib cage and into her back. They were pretty bad, but tolerable, so she decided to wait until morning and go to urgent care rather than the ER. Sunday Morning she was completely fine and so we didn’t worry about going in to the doctor. Sunday night we went to a football party to watch the Vikings and Packers play. Shortly before going home the pains started again, but this time they were not tolerable. We went to the ER at 8:30 where they determined that Shara probably had a Gall stone which was confirmed on Monday morning when she had an ultrasound at 8 AM. She has another appointment Tuesday to talk about possibly getting her gallbladder removed.

Later on Monday we took Cade to Minneapolis to see the specialist. He saw an ENT Ear, Nose, Throat Doctor. It was thought that Cade had an immature larynx, but after testing was done it was determined that he has paralysis on of his vocal chords. It sounds bad, but it has a good chance of fixing itself. It does cause him to be fussy and eating and sleeping are sometimes tough. Shara is a trooper though!

Basically, the vocal chords open and close to allow air into the lungs and keep liquids and food out of the lungs. The left vocal chord is staying shut for some reason. The doctor says that in many cases, it corrects itself within a year of birth. It can be caused by trauma during birth or many other means. If for some reason it does not correct itself within 12 months, a surgery can be performed to correct it, but we are praying for a healing before that time comes.

The bottom line is that Cade could have problems breathing if he were to get sick and so we need to watch closely for that. So, if you come to visit and we are apprehensive about passing him around, it is a doctor’s order that we are extra cautious that he does not get a cold.

Because his left vocal chord is paralyzed, the right one is over compensating and thus we get the grunting, hoarse cry that made us take him to the doctor in the first place. He is doing very well other wise. The doctor is concerned mainly about his breathing and weight gain. Kids can loose weight from working too hard to breath. I know a lot of adult that would love that to be the case for them. With kids it can be dangerous.

We go into see the doctor in 3 weeks unless he gets sick. Shara will find about the need for surgery tomorrow, we hope. We will let you know about how things went and if there are any changes in the future. For now, we appreciate you prayers. It is so awesome to know that we are in such good hands, God is faithful. He has blessed us with so much including people who surround us with prayer and support.

We love you,
Kirk, Shara and Cade!
