I should be sleeping!
I had surgery yesterday at about 12:30pm. I should be sleeping being Kirk has the night shift because I can’t use my milk right now because of the anesthesia. I am feeling really good though considering I just had surgery a little over 12 hours ago and once again amazed at God’s blessings in my life. We scheduled the surgery a week and a half out so I could pump extra milk for Cade thinking we may still need to supplement with formula, but it is looking like we will even have extra! Thanks to everyone who specifically prayed for my supply to increase.
Up until less than 7 weeks ago I had never had a broken bone or even an IV so this whole hospital thing has been all new to me. I have now had 3 IVs in the last 7 weeks and that particular part of each experience has not been the most fun. It is especially unnerving when this last time the nurse says to the other, “Come here and tell me what I do wrong”. Kirk was getting whiter and had to sit while they tried a second time in my already bruised hand from the IV they tried to give me in ER.
The surgery went very well though, and Kirk has been fantastic! Thanks to my parents for making the trek to be with us for support and Kirk’s dad for volunteering to. There have been neat little things that God has done along the way too like the nurse who helped deliver Cade (Sandy) was at the hospital and came down to see me in same day surgery and get more particulars specific to feeding Cade afterward or having our nurse in the clinic (and friend, Judy) pray for us right there in the clinic. We are finding that we have a huge family that is far bigger than those that are related by blood. So many people have been praying for everything going on and those who have helped tangibly. God loves to give good gifts to his children! Tawny took Cade the night we were in ER and Dave (our friend who happens to be a great doctor) came to ER to be a support and translate what was really going on as well as DeeAnn who came down to pray with us…I know her day was especially busy, but it meant so much.
Cade seems to be doing better. Since we have learned to hold him towards his right because of his vocal chord he doesn’t grunt, spit up or gurgle nearly as much. It also seems that his cry is getting louder although it still isn’t normal. We have his next specialist appointment on the 6th of December. I know that so many people are praying for his healing. Thanks to my mom who pushed us to take him to the doctor again. A special thanks to my 5 year old nephew, Reilly, who prays specifically for Cade’s health each night. O the faith of a child!
There isn’t room to thank each of you who have done so much since Cade has been born. From the prayers for delivery, the showers and gifts, the meals, the visitors, advice, letting us borrow clothes for Cade (Tricia), taking great pictures (Heidi), the phone calls reaching out to help (or calling Tawny as to not “bother” us), cards in the mail, groceries brought to us when my diet changed drastically (Tawny), people coming up to us in church inquiring so they can pray, those who came to Cade’s dedication, and our small group who has been there all along the way. It has been great. Thanks to Kirk’s mom who will be coming to watch Cade this weekend as I recover. The glory goes to God for all he has done. We are truly overwhelmed. It is the blessing of the Body of Christ doing what God has created it to do.
I can only hope and pray that you are blessed in such a way that you can experience God’s goodness (which He is always good) and the Body of Christ the way we have. We truly have so much to be thankful for this year! I have not even included yet the immeasurable gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross for each of us and the abundant life we can experience even on this side of heaven.
Our continued prayer is for Cade’s salvation at a young age and that his life would be glorifying to God. It is a daunting task knowing that we have been given authority by God to raise this little one. We pray for wisdom and for God’s grace where we don’t measure up.
